Space Summer School Day One

July 27, 2009 06:45 by janina

Blast off!

Rain... so we had to relocate out first big activity from the park to the school. We took a quick trip around the Solar System. We visited all the planets in mixed crews of little and big kids. Each team started at their home planet and orbited the sun.

Mercury... Goes round the sun the fastest so the children had do something as fast as possible ...Get dressed quickly in the space suit and take a photo.

Venus is the hottest planet so we got to stop for an ice cream. Venus was located in the small staff room and we didn't put any air conditioning on, so we got to really feel that Venus heat.

Earth was next. Build a space shuttle out of boxes and lego and... then blast off to the planets.

Mars. Aghhhh! Aliens stole our photos. A popular planet though, so we'll visit again and be more careful with our camera then.

Next we had to cross the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. Watch out for those flying rocks!

Over to Jupiter. It's the biggest planet and we had to carry four of them around the sun.

Saturn... Those pesky aliens got out there too. No photos! Saturn has rings so we had to pass through all Saturn's rings (hoops) and see who could keep the rings up the longest. A. from Kyoto: 131 hulas!

Uranus... A gas giant. We had to blow up and pop a balloon each.

Neptune: Our last stop before home. We had to complete a solar system puzzle to check our learning.
