Our Kapok Tree

June 18, 2008 04:50 by janina
We finally finished our Kapok Tree - and it is great! We had been reading "The Great Kapok Tree" and we decided to make one ourselves. At first we did leaf rubbings as you might have seen below, and we enjoyed it but it took a long time to make enough leaves. We also made some big crepe paper flowers. The bark is brown packing paper all crumpled up and stuck on - we got really messy - and we enjoyed twisting vines. But leaves were a problem. So finally Mana had the idea of collecting leaves and  taping them on, and that's what we did. We went on a leaf hunt and brought back enough to finish it off. We made a toucan out of the crepe paper left over from our paper throwing event (see earlier). We're still planning to add things like tree frogs. Can you see our boingey snakes? And the tail of our long snake we made in afterschool preschool?
