We had a welcome Tomoya and thanks Kaori dinner at the indian restaurant, Maita, near the school. We recommend it. Yum!

Park Days

May 23, 2010 06:48 by janina

We don't have much outside space at school, but we spend a lot of time in the parks. We are lucky; there are 4 parks within 5 minutes walk and another 3 that we walk to regularly too.

International Fun Day: Okura Kaigan

May 22, 2010 07:08 by janina

Not sure whether the slugs or the ice cream was the highlight. Spot mad boy swimming in his clothes (no he didn't have a change of clothes or a towel!). One of the kids commented, "That's what Bilingual School is all about. We'd never be allowed to do this on a shougakko trip". Hmmmm... Let's hope parents see it as a positive too :-)

Loads of stuff happening in Mummy and Me. But check out our cool cars. Red light stop; green light go!

International Fun Day: Let's Go Climb a Mountain!

April 17, 2010 12:00 by justin

On Saturday we went walking on Funday. We were tired after all the walking, but we had a lot of fun.

We went up hills!

And down hills!

Let's go walking!

Time for a lunch break!

After we all recharged, it was time to walk some more!

Are we there yet?!?!

We made it!

Can you see your house?

We had a lot of fun on this thing!

Upper School Orientation

March 24, 2010 01:58 by janina

There are lots of children moving from the lower school to the upper school this April, and we have some new friends who have joined us as new upper school students too. So we had a one day orientation to get to know each other. We had lots of fun and we learned a lot too. Some highlights...

We started with some team building games. Can we all get on the blue tarp as it gets smaller and smaller? Spot the crazy teacher cheerleading the tower building!

We had a "make your own sandwich" lunch party. Yum!

We played hide and seek indoors as it was raining too hard to go to the park.

Of course, we studied and played word/phonics games.

And we did craft too. Look at our new school window. Read all about us!

Pennies for Peace Bazaar: ¥35,815 raised!

March 22, 2010 02:15 by janina

On March 22, public holiday, we held our first annual (maybe!) bazaar and student talent show. We sold recycled goods (thank you to all who donated), had a bake sale (thank you to all who baked), sold home grown veg (thank you Zuzu family), and had a "flower preservation" craft session )thank you to the flower preservation teacher). Thank you so much to all the parents who helped out on the day, and the children especially, who set up and priced the goods and ran many of the shops and games. A huge thanks to all the kids who bravely and brilliantly took part in the talent show. Wow! Not only do you speak English really well, but you do lots of other things with aplomb too!

Thank you everyone who came, thank you weather,  and thank you Pennies for Peace for giving us a good reason to work together and have a great day. It was perfect!

Goodbye Mana

March 19, 2010 01:51 by janina

It was also with mixed emotions that we said "so long" to Mana. She has accepted a new job as a shougakko teacher in her hometown. We'll miss her but we really wish her well! She promises to visit us sometimes and come to some parties and events. So thank you so much Mana. You were always happy and smiling and fun to work with and learn from. We had a great time with you. And see you soon!

As she's going to shougakko, we bought her a new satchel (randoseru). We all signed it for her and put a new thermos and lunchbox inside.

Kindergarten Graduation 2010

March 19, 2010 01:42 by janina

Our first Kindergarten graduation. We had a lovely day. The children sang and played for their parents and we shared a pizza lunch. The ceremonies were fun too!
